Enjoy real Caribbean cooking derived from the pureness of its origin. Vaneita Campbell, owner,  was born in Jamaica in the parish of St. Elizabeth, in the district of Treasure Beach, surrounded by the deep blue sea. Most of her family were fisher men including her father. Some of them did farming and others raise pigs, goat, chickens, and cows. They were not rich, but lived comfortable. As a little girl growing up in the neighborhood, she had fun cooking on the beach, baking Sweet Potato Pudding, and Corn Pone, baked in a three foot pot. That’s what they call, “Hell a top, hell a bottom, and hallelujah in the middle”,  in those days, there were no ovens, baking was done with fire coals. Vaneita remembers also making “Blue Draws”,  ”Mackerel Rundown” and Pepper Pot Soup which was sold to neighbors. Her passion for cooking grew out of these experiences.

In the early 80’s, she migrated to England and started her cooking career. Jamaican Fruit Cake, Rum Cake and Vegetable, Beef, and Chicken Patties were her specialties. In March of 1995, she came to the U.S.A and tried something different by taking care of the elderly, however her love for cooking tugged at her heart. Every holiday season and every birthday event, she had a party at her home where she enjoyed the pleasure of cooking for her friends. She was always looking for a place to start her take-out restaurant. Vaneita finally found one in Pembroke Park, Florida. V & G Caribbean Take-Out Restaurant was the natural outcome. Her customers call her Ms. V or Mum, true caribbean terms of endearment; she loves that, and loves to see the smiles on people’s faces as they enjoy her delicious caribbean recipes.

Vaneita also produces wonderful Natural Fruit Juices that are sure to please the palette and refresh you. Ginger Beer, Fruit Punch, Pink Lemonade, Irish Moss, Sour Sop Juice and Ginger & Pineapple are the special natural juices you’ll find at V & G Caribbean Restaurant. She also makes a lovely Jamaican Fruit Cake and Nut Cake that will have you asking for more.

Jamaican Food

Jamaican food is full of fire, taking advantage of pungent spices and peppers. Jamaican dishes include ‘Rice and Peas’, a tasty dish with no peas at all, but with kidney beans, white rice, coconut milk, scallions (spring onions) and coconut oil.

Other dishes are Salt Fish (dried cod) and Ackee (the cooked fruit of the ackee tree), Curried Goat and Rice (spicy and strong), Jamaican Pepper Pot Soup (salt pork, salt beef, okra and Indian kale known as callaloo), Chicken Fricassé Jamaican-Style (a rich chicken stew with carrots, scallions, yams, onions, tomatoes and peppers prepared in unrefined coconut oil) and Roast Suckling Pig (a 3-month-old piglet which is boned and stuffed with rice, peppers, diced yam and thyme mixed with shredded coconut and corn meal).
